I don’t know about you, but Thursday has always been the unofficial start of the weekend for me. Even if you’ve got one more day of work to battle through just knowing the weekend is around the corner can make life a little brighter.
This weekend there are no shortage of fun things to do. Here are a few to try:
- Thursday: The Great Escape at Fort Whyte Alive. $25. 7-11pm. Billed as summer camp for adults, this 18+ event is your chance to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors, even if you’re staying in the city for the summer. Check out some of the activities: Archery with Cabela’s, Axe Throwing with Lumberjax Axe Throwing, Wilderness Survival Skills with Maple Leaf Survival, Tie-dying with natural dyes, Canoeing, Crafts, Marshmallow roasts, Camp games, Facepainting and a Camp-y Photobooth! There will also be music by: DJs Ack & Quack and a Campfire Singalong with Michaela Loewen. All funds raised support environmental education at FortWhyte Alive.
<< CONTEST TIME >> It's the weekend! Time to kick back, relax, and rest up for our one-night-only summer camp for adults, The Great Escape, happening on Thursday, July 20. For your chance to WIN free tickets for you and a friend, <LIKE> this photo and <TAG> a pal you'd love to bring to this party in support of environmental education. And for an extra entry, <SHARE> this photo! We'll pick a winner on Monday at noon. GOOD LUCK! If you don't want to chance it, we've got a limited number of tickets left on our website (link in profile).
- Friday, Saturday & Sunday: Go see THE DRESS. The one Marilyn Munroe wore when she sang her famous rendition of Happy Birthday for President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday in 1962 at Madison Square Garden. Originally designed by Academy Award-winning costume designer Jean Louis (and sketched by a young Bob Mackie!) the dress features over 2,500 crystals and 6,000 hand-sewn rhinestones. It cost $12,000 to make – that would be around $100,000 today. Allegedly the dress was so tight Munroe had to be sewn into it! It was recently purchased by a Canadian billionaire and is making a tour of Save-On-Foods locations in Winnipeg: Friday 9am-8pm Northgate, Saturday, 9am-8pm Bridgwater & Sunday 9am-5pm St. James.
- Saturday: Ed Sheeran at Bell MTS Place. Who wouldn’t want to be in the audience when he croons, hopefully making you feel like he’s singing directly to you? At last check (Thursday afternoon) Ticketmaster Canada had a few tickets remaining. If you don’t get to see him this time around, you’ll just have to wait until the fall when he makes his cartoon debut on The Simpsons as Brendan – in a musical-themed episode of course – called “Haw-Haw Land.” Or you can spend the evening YouTubing his videos with a bottle of wine. We won’t judge.
