Did you know there are some 20 chances for you to see a FREE movie in Winnipeg in August?
It’s a bit of a tradition around here. Outdoor screenings. All you need are lawn chairs or a blanket, bug spray & snacks.
This year you can see FREE movies three times a week!
Tuesdays, the Downtown Winnipeg Biz hosts Movies on Memorial. Memorial Park is located at the corner of Osborne and Broadway and don’t worry about street parking, it’s free and plentiful after 5:30. This year there’s a 90s theme:
August 1: Little Rascals, 8: Spice World, 15: Space Jam, 22: It Takes Two, 29: Jumanji.
Due to construction downtown they won’t be hosting the drive-in movies downtown this year, but hopefully they can revive that idea another year, because those were great too! In the event of rain, these screenings will be moved to the following day, Wednesday.
For two Wednesdays in August you can catch FREE films at Forth 171 McDermot.
August 2: Forth BDay Double Feature – Mars Attacks! (Downstairs gallery 7 pm) & Metropolis (Rooftop Bar 9:30 pm), 9: Donnie Darko (7pm)
The bonus about checking out films at Forth is that they offer FREE popcorn and if you’d like to, beer is just $5.
Thursdays, the Transcona Biz hosts films at Centennial Square 135 Regent Ave.
August 3: Trolls, 10: La La Land, 17: Beauty and the Beast, 24: Dirty Dancing, 31: Rogue One.
Start times for Tue/Thur films are around dusk, between 9 and 9:30.
It’s Double Feature Fridays at Assiniboine Park’s Movies in the Park. Since they use the Lyric stage, they can start movies earlier. A kids feature plays at 7 followed by PG+ film at 9:15.
August 4: Sing & La La Land, 11: Finding Dory & Captain American Civil War, 18: Moana & Arrival, 25: Trolls & Rogue One.
